Haitian Creole is a language spoken in Haiti based on French but mixed with African languages, which is why it is considered a dialect of French. This language is not only spoken in Haiti, but in the countries where there is Haitian emigration, mainly in the Caribbean, France, Canada, Ecuador, Colombia, Chile and the United States.

The Creole dates back to colonial times by France in the Americas, in particular with the slave trade from Africa to the American continent, mostly from the Gold Coast and the Slave Coast, The Congo and Angola. Historically, the Creole languages were born in the plantations of the Antilles, on the East coast of the USA, in the Guyanas, in the islands of the Pacific and the Indian Ocean during the slave trade era, between the 16th and 19th centuries. In countries like the US, Creole is spoken in states such as Louisiana, former colony of France and which was closely related to Haitian independence, and its leaders, such as Toussaint, Petion, Christophe and Dessalines, who were true idols in New Orleans and other cities .

In this way, the Creole not only developed in Haiti but in other then French colonies or French influence to which African slaves came.

Despite the importance of this language in Haiti and the Dominican Republic, it was not until 1964 that it is mentioned as a Creole language in the Constitution of that country, being prohibited by the Francois Duvalier regime, and subsequently, in the 1987 Constitution, it is recognized as the official language of Haiti.

Haitian Creole has been gaining importance because it is the dialect derived from the most spoken French, motivated by the emigration of Haitians to different parts of the world. Its importance is such that some official documents in the US are written in Creole. In the Dominican Republic, the Dominican Haitian ethnic group of Haitian descent and undocumented Haitian immigrants amount to approximately 2 million people.

There is a particular feature of the Creole speakers, and that is that they are generally bilingual. That is, in addition to generally speaking French, they are also Spanish-speakers (for example, Haitians living in other Latin American countries). Additionally, from the cultural point of view, they define themselves as an Afro-Antillean mulatto nation, composed predominantly of mulattos, whites and blacks.
