Media Kit – How to get it going
Creative Solutions: Marketing, Copywriters & Writing Solutions

A media kit is also referred to as press kit – and is basically a package of information about your business or a product. The name relates to media or press kit, as potential advertising organizations as for additional information about the firm, services, and more, hence the term media kit developed.

A media kit is easiest developed if you understand what it should contain. Since most of the queries address questions from media, investors, potential clients and others, you should adopt it accordingly to provide answers to potential questions.

You do not want to have a lengthy one, make sure it grabs the reader’s attention, so that they will contact you to request for additional information.

A press kit can be developed with different features, that you can increase or decrease as you see fit – below just a quick summary to give you an idea. But as always in marketing – be creative in your approach:

  • Introduction Letter – have your president write up a pitch letter to gain the interest!
  • Information on the firm: company history, do not forget a brief overview of the company including intros of the executives or senior staff of the firm
  • Mission, Goals, Objectives: keep it short
  • Tell more about your products or services, include some reviews
  • Publications about your firms, your senior staff or products (or anything related)
  • If you target PR agencies: add a relevant press release
  • Audio, video and graphic files, including images to use (license free)
  • Investor related information
  • List of FAQ
  • Any relevant social engagement
  • Recent awards you won
  • Giveaway information
  • Order form: don´t forget to sell
  • Contact information and phone numbers

What you should avoid is very promotional marketing – it will distract the reader and have an opposite effect on them, rather than what you would hope for.

Keep the media kit simple – they want to read and learn about your firm and service, not be blended by glitter!
